For my research, I have the opportunity to work with the Hanunuo Mangyans in Southern Mindoro. They are a small, but strong and resilient community who have historically faced displacement due to land encroachment and territorial marginalization. This has increased their vulnerability to food insecurity and environmental changes, particularly during the seasonal “lean months” (Declaro-Ruedas, 2022), from July to September, when food resources dwindle following the kaingin (swidden) and lowland farming cycles (Calitang & Orpiano, 2023).
